What has science in common with your last weekend travel?

My answer to the question in the title is simple, “a lot”.

All it needs is the awareness for science in daily life. Just take the following facts into consideration: The aerodynamics of your airplane, the controls of the lift that brings you to your room in your hotel, your online booking for the opera and the shape of some selected buildings that you see on your sight-seeing tour.

dubaiRecently, on my way from Switzerland to Singapore, I enjoyed a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for some days. The weather was perfect, at about 23 Celsius and so I went to see the sights of the town. Strolling along the marina walk, I was astonished to witness a high-rise with a prominent twist of …………….degrees (this is your second question). For me, the form of this construction is an over sized…………………(this is your first question). The name of the building is “Cayan Tower”.

Here in Singapore too, we have lots of very interesting constructions, such as “The Interlaced”, “Reflections at Keppel” or “D’Leedon“. But, according to my understanding, the shape of the “Cayan Tower” can not be found here in Singapore, at least for now.

Towards the end of my first blog, I want you to ask the two questions with regard to this “Cayan Tower” in Dubai. Please reply within 5 days, after that I will let you know the answer in this blog.

1. Question

The shape of the building on the picture reminds about what simple scientific tool?

………………………………………………………………..

2. Question

Based on the information found in the web, the tower is twisted for how many degrees?

………………………………………………………………..

Thanks and bye, have fun.
